July fishing report

2 min read

Welcome to the coastal Angler magazine, Palm Beach fishing forecast for July. The live bait have arrived and the ocean should be calm. This combo will draw a lot of fishermen to the water. The bite offshore of the Juno pier will be on fire. It's not hard to find, just head north out of the Palm Beach inlet and run the beach in till you see a giant structure stretching off shore from the beach. Now, stop! The pier holds a lot of live bait this time of year. When bait fishing, be aware of the boundary markers on the beach. Do not go within 500 feet of the pier, unless you don't care about getting a ticket or sinkers being cast onto your boat. After blacking out the well, head dead east to the drop. The drop is when your bottom machine drops from 120 to 140 fast! This spot is loaded with all kinds of pelagic fish. Smoker Kings, Blackfin, Bonito, Dolphin and Wahoo will be just some of the fish hanging around this up-welling of water. When that reel starts to sing, jump on it fast, because jaws may be in the area! Huge Bull sharks will be lurking in this spot too.

For you meat fishermen, bottom fishing will be on fire in July. Mutton, Yellow tail, Vermillion and Mangrove Snapper will be the fish of choice. Using a chicken rig will pull up a lot of tails, but if you are looking for that mutton try using a sliding sinker rig with a small hook and a long leader. This should trick even the shiest fish to the bait. Hot mornings and rainy afternoons should be the weather pattern for this time of the year, so anglers should get an early start to the day. Please be aware of the weather. If you see dark clouds to the west, pack it up and give yourself plenty of time to get back to the dock.

Just a reminder if you don't want to bother catching live bait. Give you local bait guy a call on channel 68. Also, remember to switch your VHF back to channel 19 so you can keep an ear out for the hot bite. that's all I have for you right now, but remember you can't catch them from the couch!
